THE money has been spent, the carrot is here, now can we move on? We should channel our energies into influencing positive decisions for the benefit of the town. I read today that the town councillors have voted unanimously for the marina proposals, can we hope that it will be carried forward to North Somerset Council and approved? To vote for a wall that will cost millions and potentially do little to keep back the tide, or return any revenue to the town is stupid. Surely the best option to follow is one that would have double benefit - combat the possibility of a rising sea level and create a business opportunity that would bring money and jobs into the town. Investment will cost more, but we should not rush in to a quick fix, after all, I am sure the tidal wave is not imminent. Likewise, well done to Mr Mead for his idea of building a snow dome on the outskirts of the town. This is another chance to give the town something that would attract people to Weston and increase employment. If we are concerned at the rising number of commuters living in Weston then the council should think more conscientiously about a strategy that encourages economic growth. The more job opportunities in Weston, the better the contribution to reducing a need to commute and therefore a reduction in road congestion (every little helps). It is high time that thought was given to the needs of a modern tourist and strides made to meet that need. Weston could regain the flourish of seaside acclaim it once had, all it takes is a little sensible thinking. We could start with a beach side swimming and fun pool plus complimentary all-weather amenities - can anyone suggest a location?
