Cars nudging past road closed barriers

FOR the umpteenth time this week it has been my displeasure to witness yet another piece of shocking driving which, as always, never fails to amaze me. On the first occasion this week I witnessed a friend drive past the 'road closed' signs through Banwell. This activity has been documented in the Mercury, and up until that moment I would have presumed the offenders to be people from out of town, but no! I was even in a taxi when the taxi driver boasted about driving through Banwell's closed road "narrowly avoiding open manhole covers, at some points I was only on half a wheel each side". Needless to say, I hope no one was in the taxi at the time with him.And not 20 minutes ago down Moor Lane, once again and not for the first time this week, cars nudging past road closed barriers, mounting the grass and curb and edging their way past till they are through! As a driver and cyclist myself I am fully aware of a need to get to your destination in the quickest time possible, and more so as a cyclist I am stunned by the apparent disregard for road signs that the majority of motorists are showing.Imagine the telling off a cyclist would have got if they had got caught going through a closed road. Why is is different for motorists? Are there some rules of the road I am not aware of that entitle motorists to completely ignore warning signs?And imagine the outcry if one of the offenders either drove into a hole, got stuck in fresh tar, or got crushed by heavy machinery. So to these motorists I say cut through these closed roads if you want, but don't go crying to the council or try suing the road workers because you only have yourself to blame!MR M FROST - Longridge Way, Weston
