WHAT have the residents of North Somerset done to deserve to be represented by such a collection of self possessed, parasitic hypocrites. Clearly having taken the example of their national counterparts, they have dug their snouts even deeper into the trough. I am neither a trade unionist or a Catholic, but it defies belief that these councillors can cut local services, penalise pupils of St Bedes school, force redundancies on no doubt hard working Town Hall staff, and then have the gall to vote themselves huge rises. North Somerset Life magazine now seems to be the political organ of the Conservative party. I do not need the beaming countenance of Nigel Ashton regularly telling me what a prudent organisation he now runs, whilst feathering his own nest.Fortunately his predecessor, Councillor Roe, has decided to bale out of local politics. I wonder how long Councillor Ashton will last? In recent years the leaders of the council have seen themselves as something of a local celebrity. How many readers can remember other figures who had their 15 minutes of fame before disappearing into political ignominy? The formation of the town council is costing us all a fortune for no benefit at all, except to feed the egos of those who thought it would raise their political profile. Now, apparently, North Somerset needs a mayor too! Come off it. Restore our services and stop creating jobs for the boys. We have been bled enough and it stops now.MAURICE DANIEL - Lower Kewstoke Road, Worle
