We were most concerned to read the report in last week's Weston Mercury concerning Winscombe and Sandford parents allegedly buying their children bottled water because they fear the tap water is not good enough. These fears were apparently prompted by our plan to build two new water mains in the district being somehow interpreted as meaning the current supply was not up to standard. There was also a reference to the village's current treatment works being no longer good enough. This is simply not true. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the water in your area. Our water quality performance is amongst the best in the country and the UK's standards are the highest in the world. The tap water we supply is much more rigorously tested than bottled water. The work in and around Winscombe is just one part of a £9.2 million scheme to ensure we can meet ever tightening quality standards and also meet increased demand for supply.
