I AM writing further to your article in last week's Weston Mercury headed 'Rehab drop-outs are burgling your homes' where it states 57 per cent of criminals convicted of burglary in Weston have dropped out of rehab according to police figures. This confirms what every 'normal' Westonian already knows - our council housing and planning policies have encouraged the importation of drug-using criminals who will stop at nothing to feed their habits. Is it any wonder that Weston cannot attract much needed investment? Would you invest millions in the Tropicana if you had just walked around the town and seen the results of our pro-drug council? It is not just North Somerset's planning and housing policies that favours these criminals. At the end of this month the VIA Group, which represents three drug addicts views and has an office paid for by your council tax, is holding an art exhibition sponsored by - yes you have guessed it - North Somerset Council - what a surprise. And don't think that just because you live outside of the town centre you have escaped the spreading cancer. Officers of the council have recently given permission for a drug and alcohol operation to relocate to Whitecross Road. So you too will have to live with the problem that has driven decent people out of Weston town centre.Cllr John Crockford-Hawley is responsible for the planning department, is an executive member of the Liberal Democrat Council and is the ward councillor for Whitecross Road where this latest drug centre will be sited. I urge you to give him your views. Tell him enough is enough, I doubt that he will listen; he thinks that because he was a geography teacher at a local comprehensive he knows better than us, but tell him anyway and remind him that local elections are next May and that he should start considering his electorate rather than his ego.A NASHNewland Road, Weston
