AS FOUNDER of Milton Nomads Junior football Club in 1969 I would like to take this opportunity of offering my sincere congratulations to the current management team on celebrating the club's 40th anniversary.

AS FOUNDER of Milton Nomads Junior football Club in 1969 I would like to take this opportunity of offering my sincere congratulations to the current management team on celebrating the club's 40th anniversary.

Nomads were the very first team from the West Country to travel abroad, visiting Holland and Belgium in 1971. The club remains one of Weston's most popular to this day. As a matter of interest Darren Main (centre forward), still holds a record of having scored 13 goals in one match.

It wasn't until I met Chris Twort (Uphill Phantoms) and David Perriman (Westland Falcon), two of the top junior teams in the area, that we decided to form an 11-a-side league competition.

Following several meetings the Weston Schoolboys' Sunday league was born, along with Nomads, in a town previously dominated by rugby.

Once again the new 2009 season gets on the way. Hundreds of young potential soccer starlets will be pitting their skills against each other. But more importantly enjoying a healthy sport and meeting new faces and making new friends. And of course it could never be quite the same without the vociferous calls from all and sundry on the touchline. "Get stuck in, Cloughie!" "Wake up, Jonesy!" Handball, ref!" "Oi, ref, how about that, then?" All good clean fun.
