I HAD to walk recently from the Anchor Inn at Bleadon to Weston Hospital. Well, what an eye opener! Apart from the expected odd fag packet, the list of rubbish deposited in the hedge and ditch would have filled the largest skip 10 times over. McDonald's and other takeaway containers made up a large percentage. In addition there was the odd TV set, builders' rubble, old cycles, plastic car parts, supermarket bags full of household rubbish, not to mention the odd tyre, still on the wheel. As a bit of relaxation I turned my eyes to the passing traffic. Mobile phones were being used by truck drivers and young ladies. Collecting the matter they throw out of their windows costs North Somerset residents dear, but do these drivers realise they actually pay for clearing up their rubbish, unless of course they are able to avoid payment of council tax by other means? That's another can of worms.C J LOXTON - Address supplied
