CHRIS Kimitri and all our local traders and business people seem to be constantly fighting a battle to ensure Weston stays a holiday destination yet the council seems dead set on a slow but steady shut down of attractions to keep visitors interested. We don't want families who want an action packed holiday in the UK, we don't want stag and hen parties (too noisy for the nouveau locals - retired NIMBYs). What do we want? Recently I revisited Plymouth and walking on the Hoe, I was amazed to see the reopened Lido that was a derelict shabby hole a few years back. Clean water and a nice sunbathing area, what a contrast to our Tropicana that was a summer haven for not only visitors but my kids used to frequent it till closing time at 9pm. Knightstone Island may now be lost and the Marine Lake silting up again but come on let's make some effort to maintain a working town. We can't all become care workers for the elderly and the people needing special treatment. With the increasing temperatures stick hardy palm trees all down our seafront, make it look tropical, let someone open a theme park, get a team together to renovate and open the Tropicana (not pie in the sky outside companies) just put something out there to encourage people to stay in the town, with that will come more wealth to improve further.E-mail your ideas to me burnsy@westonrugby.fsnet.co.uk, I will compile a list of ideas and get it back to the Mercury.PAUL BURNS - Sunnyside Road, Weston
