I TRUST the suggestion of a statue of Jeffrey Archer is not the result of a feasibility study for which Weston's council taxpayers will have to foot the bill. Of all the crackpot ideas that sometimes grace this newspaper; this has to take the biscuit. If we really need to have a statue surely it should be of someone who has brought fame to Weston, not shame. This proposal, made by non-Westonians, was announced in the same issue as Jeffrey Archer's donation of £1,000 to the Barcode. Am I being cynical or is this just a coincidence? Westonians have been lumbered with a carrot, so surely we don't need a turnip as well.NAME AND ADDRESS SUPPLIED
