I WHOLEHEARTEDLY agree with the comments made by J R Bartlett in the Mercury. In my experience the people of Weston are sick of having their wishes ignored by the council.Your letters page, comments by friends and colleagues, and general feedback locally confirms that the vast majority of local people want:1. The Tropicana opened as a covered pool NOW. They are sick of being messed about by developers and the council. It was pointed out to me that the high cost this year of lifeboat service rescues could possibly be due to there being no pool at Weston or even, now, a paddling pool on the main beach. Visiting children are desperate to paddle when the sea is out.2. A resolution of the disgrace that is Birnbeck, partly for the lifeboat service and partly for the heritage of Weston.3. The 'carrot' money to be spent on more front line services for Weston e.g. more dog wardens, park keepers, street cleaners for dog mess around Anchor Head and I'm sure other readers could think of more required services. The sad thing is that all this has been expressed many times before but seems to fall on deaf ears.
