AS a regular user of Weston's excellent library I was amazed to read the letter of complaint from M J Roger, which can only give ammunition to those who wish to truncate or close down these facilities. There are sometime heavy surges of borrowers and sometime quiet spells which can be unpredictable. The staff, who work varying shifts, have to be there to deal with all or any demands. Many other tasks are carried out which the public doesn't see which keep the service running smoothly. The role of the library in giving support to education and the arts including local groups such as book clubs, play reading, art appreciation, access to computer and networks, studies for school and college examinations and many more, is absolutely indispensable. Where problems arise, and they have to deal with difficult people at times, I am sure the staff would always deal with them in the most helpful manner, if approached politely. Public servants are human beings also, and far from losing staff we should do everything we can to hold onto them.D TAVINER - Farm Road, Weston
