MIKE Bell, (letters, January 17) suggests that there is increasing anti-Weston feeling amongst senior Conservatives on North Somerset Council. These people have always been anti-Weston. It is difficult to see how their antipathy towards the town can increase. At best they are indifferent to the resort's future. They simply don't want money spent on this half of the district. The solution is for the 'Winterstoke Hundred' to declare independence and become a unitary authority. Once that has been achieved, it might be appropriate for Winterstoke to think about becoming a borough with a mayor. In the meantime a once splendid seaside town has to suffer the degradation of a thousand cuts and ugly shoreline development.ROBERT CRAIG - Priory Road, Weston
