With reference to an article in the Times with a picture of Councillor John Clark informing us that he has arranged with North Somerset Council to demolish our West Hill public conveniences. Some time ago North Somerset Council told Portishead residents that to save money they had decided to close all toilets outside Weston. Naturally we complained about this decision and were told that we could use cafes and public houses for this purpose. As usual our councillors maintained their wall of silence and two of our toilets were immediately demolished, one at the top of Nore Road by the bus terminal and the other one next door to where Waitrose garage is now. The gents toilet in Co-op car park is in a dirty, disgusting state in spite of many complaints from Portishead. No doubt Cllr John Clark will soon be telling us it has to be demolished because it is a health hazard.Because of the massive Port Marine development which will take eight years to complete, Persimmon offered to build a public convenience in that area, but North Somerset Council was not prepared to maintain it.Will he please tell us why did he and all our district councillors refuse to vote on the very important decision for the improvement scheme to the junction 19 at Portbury?Name and address supplied
