'J19 gets the nod' - So, six out of the 12 district councillors who attended North Somerset's Council's north area planning committee to decide the future the Portbury J19 improvement scheme "sat on their hands" and declined to vote. They could not be bothered to express their view on this, the most important traffic decision that will effect thousands of Portishead's residents for the foreseeable future! So rather than the decision being made by 12 members, only six had the guts to vote. WHY I ask? This show of non-commitment is a disgrace and spineless.Do they view this as the next Cabstand fiasco and think that non-commitment on their part will exclude them from fall-out when this proposal goes horribly wrong? As a regular user of this road in the rush hour I would ask how many of these councillors have sat week after week, on a cold wet winters morning for 20 to 30 minutes to get out of Portishead? My guess would be not one of them!Further to this, your local town council views have once again been ignored. We have witnessed this lack of respect on many important decisions over the last few years. This is a disgrace. Come on you ditherers, start earning the allowances you are paid. "Put-up" - or pack your bags and move on. Alan McMurray Portishead Town Councillor
