I AM writing in response to Alan Plumpton's letter that appeared in The North Somerset Times on February 7.Surely North Somerset is to blame for the disgusting state of the area's roads. Perhaps if we stop all vehicles using them they will be perfect all year round. I believe this particular road is not as bad as some in the area ie: Brockley Coombe; Bristol Road in Wraxall and Portbury lane. All of these roads are disgusting and are the responsibility of the council to maintain. As an employee of one of the mentioned companies I can say that our working practices have not changed in the 16 years that I have been employed. One other point that I would like to make is that, yes there are a lot of lorries that use these roads, but in the last couple of years the Government decided to put our transport policies in line with Europe and allow lorries with increased tonnage to travel on our roads so surely these two companies that employ a large amount of people are not to blame.Name withheld - Portland Close, Nailsea
