REFERECE your front page article regarding the possible introduction of parking charges in Portishead (8 August 2007), I believe it would be fairer to charge only for parking in excess of two hours in the parks in the town centre. However, it would make great sense without being at all unreasonable to follow the example of Weston-super-Mare and charge for parking on the front at the Lake Grounds. Visitors there could surely not complain at modest charges (say £1 for up to two hours) particularly if the income was used to improve the maintenance of the area and assist with security patrols.Brian Raybould, South Road, Portishead
