IN REPLY to your Banwell resident - "Where did all the traffic go"?The answer is Stock Lane, Langford via Congresbury. Even under normal circumstances the heavy traffic is excessive for a narrow "B" road with only a 40mph speed limit, proof of this can be seen by the damaged stone walls which are part of national heritage. There is no pavement for pedestrians. Cyclists use it at their peril. There are major parts where even the locals will not walk for fear of injury or worse. As for using it as part of a keep fit regime to link up with local footpaths further up Stock Lane - forget it. With the introduction of speed ramps in Banwell the traffic down Stock Lane greatly increased, damage to property increased, and residents' enjoyment of living in a country lane has been greatly affected. The excess traffic pours out onto the A38 at a bad junction where there are numerous accidents all year, every year.I sympathise with Banwell residents over their traffic problem. We don't want it either. What is required is action by the highway authorities in making a by-pass - not - calling for endless and expensive surveys and putting action off.E C LEWIS - Via e-mail
