Former glory

Re the letter from Councillor Walters: With reference to your letter of November 8 regarding the state of the Lake Grounds, I can advise that regarding the pitch and putt a new golf club has been formed with the full support and co-operation of the concessionaires and North Somerset Council and we are working with them to restore it to its former glory. They have offered assistance with replacement tee off mats and other material and in cutting the course to a golfing standard with fairways, etc. We hope to bring the course up to a golfing industry standard aiming at national nine hole competitions. The course will still be open to the public and we are encouraging younger members to give them their own degree of involvement and responsibility. This will all take time with the club members volunteering their own time and effort. I must add that I have had nothing but full support and assistance from North Somerset Council in this matter and commend them. Perhaps if others formed a 'flower bed group' or the likes we would see other improvements. Arthur Howell Portishead Lakeside Golf Club
