I READ with some interest the article regarding the freeing up of parking areas within the town.

I READ with some interest the article regarding the freeing up of parking areas within the town.

Councillor Elfan Ap Rees is quoted saying the yellow lines and traffic regulations don't match, maybe if it was checked in the first place the time, money and effort of replacing the lines could have been saved.

He continues saying if the lines are corrected the police could put a stop to the free for all parking, yet again we see the councillor blaming the police for the lack of enforcement, surely police time would be better served rather than dealing with parking offences.

The council has the option to apply to the Government to enforce parking regulations themselves and with the introduction of the Traffic Management Act 2004 can employ civil enforcement officers to enforce parking, waiting and some moving traffic offences.

The town needs to improve parking facilities on the streets to allow everyone to use the short term parking and not those who stay all day in time limited bays. No doubt this will drag on as no political group will want to be the ones introducing this political hot potato.
