REGARDING Sue Mildenhall's suggestion that sandbags are cheaper than a proper sea wall, I suspect that she, in the safety of inland Norwich, has forgotten what the sea can do. I saw the devastation and death that the 1953 sea floods did to the West Norfolk coast. I look forward to the protection a proper sea wall, partially funded by the Government, will give to homes like mine, as well as to some hotels. The sea has flooded streets here not that long a go. Sandbags have trouble containing over-full rivers. Sandbags to restrain the pounding of the sea? A visit to the front at a high tide would illustrate the futility of such a defence.
