I AM writing in response to misleading and inaccurate statements in the article on the new Yatton library in last week's paper. You state that the extra £90,000 agreed for the project at the meeting on July 11 included the £40,000 cost of the mezzanine floor. This is not true. The mezzanine cost was generously donated by the Wake Worlock Trust and was included in the budget in 2004. The community room on the mezzanine floor will be named the Wake Worlock Room in recognition of this. In outlining the costs for building works you also omit to say that they include disability access works and roof repairs which could not realistically have been foreseen when the budget was set in 2003 by the previous administration. Surely nobody is suggesting that these works should not be done? However it is true that the contingency in the 2003 budget was set too low for a building of that age in a conservation area. I hope that your reporter and more importantly residents in the Yatton area will come and admire the building when it is opened, and enjoy its facilities regularly in the future.DEBORAH YAMANAKA - Executive Member for Environment and Community
