Well, I've heard it all now. Just weeks ago local town and businesses were concerned about the new Tesco opening in Clevedon. Now there are proposals to charge motorists in Portishead to use the local shops. I pop into the High Street about three times a week to pick up shopping which I cannot carry to the Vale where I live, so if I was charged for parking, Tesco in Clevedon once a week would solve my problem. No doubt other residents would feel the same.Come on North Somerset Council, Portishead is a different seaside town to Weston-super-Mare where there is a sandy beach and amusements for everyone. That is why charging can be feasible. Portishead is a lovely place for walks/strolls and a bite to eat and not on the same scale and should be left alone. There are now lots of people living in Portishead which the High Street relies on to keep their businesses running, it would be a crying shame to see it turn into a ghost town which we all have witnessed before in different places. It doesn't take long for this to happen when we have Cribbs Causeway at one end of the motorway and Clevedon at the other.Don't forget North Somerset Council we are motorists and we have choices, so don't destroy our lovely Portishead.A Vale Resident
