Green bags' red tape

REGARDING the council's brilliant new 'green' initiative, it would be brilliant if there was less red tape! I filled my two green bags with cuttings and also left four bin liners with grass cuttings on the roadside this week ready for collection. I had been told that the bin bags would be collected if the contents were visible but apparently not so!I telephoned the helpline. I was told that due to the new contracts signed in March, only green items left in the council's own green bags would be collected. Cuttings in similar garden centre type green bags do not have to be collected as per the new contract - and for the employees' health and safety! So I asked why the dustbin men didn't take the few that had been there since last week. They too are under new contracts and are under no obligation to take them. They can even open bags and if the contents are green, they do not have to take them!This is absolutely ridiculous! The collections are only fortnightly so we'll have to be very mindful of when we do the gardening! I was also told I am quite welcome to take my waste to the local tip. I would if my car could hold that much smelly, rotting grass, or I could ask my husband to take it to the tip in his van, a sign-written van that we pay a fee to be able to carry waste and then have to pay another fee to tip.
