GARETH Jones is entitled to his rose tinted memories of the halcyon days of Woodspring Council but his comments about current North Somerset councillors and 'proper jobs' are insulting and untrue. Several councillors run their own businesses, many are in full time employment and others, instead of putting their feet up in retirement, serve the community. To my knowledge, members work or have worked in banking, insurance, multinational industrial companies, the police force, teaching, fire services and transport. I agree with Gareth that local government has changed in the last 40 years and sometimes not for the better, but whereas Woodspring was a district council, North Somerset as a unitary authority covers all the services of a district and a county together with the increasing burden of duties handed down by Central Government.CLLR TONY LAKE - Greenhill Road, Sandford
