I FEEL it necessary to add to the comments made by Mrs Bishop, page 6, last week. Whilst I would not wish to belittle the efforts made by our council workers I do feel it important to point out that a large part of the work done to improve the look of our town by floral displays is done by volunteers. This group formerly known as Flower Power is now known as Weston-s-Mare in Bloom. To my knowledge there is only one paid member who carries out the very important admin part of the operation. True, the money used comes largely from the Town Council but it is also supplemented by local businesses. The actual organisation, planning and much of the physical hard graft is carried out by this hard working committee.

They are responsible for the two new baskets outside Paddock Park by the Sainsbury's/Homebase roundabout, all the boat roundabouts along the Queensway, Worle, planters and hanging baskets in Worle High Street, hanging baskets in Milton, a large, new basket tree in the Italian Gardens, the train in Alexandra Parade and the newly installed donkey at Dawsons Island, at the junction of Worle High Street, Milton Road and New Bristol Road. I think you will agree these are no mean addition to the work carried out by the council gardeners!
