I WAS sorely puzzled that dogs were to be banned from our beaches under EU cleanliness rules, whilst our beloved donkeys are allowed their historic right to give rides whilst depositing evidence of their passage up and down the sand in far greater amounts than any canine could produce in a month of dog days. But my mind has been set at rest. I have been initiated into a little-known Weston enterprise. At low tide the sands are swept by patient hard working folk who may be seen wielding their triple-D donkey-dos detectors. The poo is carefully collected, cleaned, and separated into small pieces of uniform size that are lovingly rolled by fair maidens into perfect little spheres before being coated with chocolate and attractively packaged in cartons to be sold on the Grand Pier as 'Donkey-Poo', a highly prized local delicacy at £2.50 a box!MIKE ROGERS - Baker Street, Weston
