PLEASE would you print this heartfelt thank you to all the staff of Cheddar Ward, the intensive care unit and all the doctors and consultants at Weston Hospital who gave me such incredible care after serious complications arose after my recent operation. My admiration begins with the cleaners, some only teenagers, through to the nursing staff. They are the warmest, closest and most self-supporting team I have ever seen and this was conveyed to me as a patient at a frightening time. It made me feel safe and secure.I wish also to thank blood donors because without your generous gift people such as myself would not receive life-saving transfusions.Penny Taylor-Newton - Shaftesbury Road, WestonI HAVE read with interest and pride of the input and activities of the personnel at Weston Hospital, as reported in the annual review of Weston Area Health NHS, produced by your newspaper. Westonians and those in nearby areas are indeed fortunate to be served by so many caring people.Gratitude was rightly expressed to many in the hospital but I was saddened to find no mention of the many volunteers who gave their time month after month to man the League of Friends shop, and run the trolley service. I trust I may be permitted to thank them for their help and support, for without them I suggest the hospital would be a poorer place.JUNE STEPHEN - President, League of FriendsWITH reference to criticism of Weston hospital, I would like to give you my experience. Over the last year my mother, father-in-law and recently myself, have all been patients for quite long periods, mainly in Berrow and Draycott wards. At all times we received great care and compassion from all the staff. We certainly did not experience any dirty conditions. All the staff worked extremely hard and were always kind, caring, cheerful and efficient; nothing was ever too much trouble for them.MARY MEALING - Nutwell Road, WorleAFTER a short stay in Weston hospital I would like to publicly record my thanks to the staff of Uphill Ward and the surgeons for their care.Nothing was too much trouble, their attention to cleanliness was superb.BARBARA HART - Mendip Avenue, WestonI RECENTLY went into Weston General Hospital as a day case for repair of a hernia. This happened within two months of going to see my GP, a delay much shorter than I dared hope. In fact it might have been even quicker if the appointments staff had been able to leave a message on my answerphone (I understand they are forbidden to do that for reasons of confidentiality). Even so, when I telephoned them to ask if it was possible to have an earlier appointment to see the consultant they came up with an earlier date within 10 days. They then phoned back again within four days of my seeing the consultant (including a bank holiday) to see if I could take advantage of a cancellation in two days time to have the hernia repaired. I was astonished and delighted to accept. In addition to the extremely speedy response I found all the staff, administrative, nursing, anaesthetics and surgical most friendly, cheerful and helpful, in spite of their obviously high workload.MR C R DAVIES - Little Orchard, Weston
