IN RESPONSE to the letter printed in last week's paper from Cllr Mike Kellaway-Marriott, there are a few points that I would like to clarify.Cllr Kellaway-Marriott obviously didn't do his homework prior to writing this article as even as a member of the public I am aware of who collects my rubbish, who collects my recycling and who collects my garden waste. The article is clearly blaming all problems regarding all methods of waste collection on Biffa who actually only collects the recycling once a fortnight. Cleanaway collects the rubbish (black sacks) weekly and garden waste (green sacks) fortnightly, well they did the last time I looked anyway. The article mentioned that the black bags were collected a day late. This happens every year as I think the guys are entitled to have Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day off work. I'm sure that Cllr Kellaway-Marriott was not working on these days.I read the paper prior to Christmas as I always do to find out when my rubbish would be collected and received a calendar through my door for the recycling so I was fully aware of when my collections world be so, yes, the usual holiday experience did take place, as it always does, with no problems. The letter also mentioned that the green boxes were left on the public footway. The calendar put through my door states that I receive a kerbside recycling collection. Last time I looked the kerb was at the edge of the public footway. If Cllr Mike Kellaway-Marriott feels that it is unsafe to put his box out before the recycling guys arrive then that is his decision. Personally I put my box out at 7.30am as the calendar states to avoid my box not being collected. I'm sure the guys are very busy and do not have time to keep coming back for boxes put out after they've been past. When I read the letter I was shocked that someone would complain about services over the Christmas and New Year period when revised collection days were clearly advertised. Rubbish does get kicked around the streets unfortunately but that's just life. I personally think that Biffa and Cleanaway do very well at what is an extremely difficult and dirty job.MR N MORTONAbbots Close, Worle
