DID the local newspapers get their figures wrong when they reported North Somerset Council was going out to tender to upgrade the computer system for the Winter Gardens and Playhouse theatre box offices? They are saying the present system is unable to handle online bookings. All very well but we are told The Playhouse runs at a cost to the ratepayer, which I think is acceptable as we all know we should have a theatre even if it loses money.Weston needs something where people can go to see a live performance without having to travel to Bristol or Bath. What I don't believe is the reported £20,000 per year, £400 per week, it will cost to run. If it is in fact going to cost that much, I do not see how on earth it could pay its way.Unless, of course, this is another case of the people who are supposed to act in the best interest of the ratepayers are not doing the job they are paid to do properly.LAURENCE F ORME - Shrubbery Avenue, Weston
