I ATTENDED the meeting at the Town Hall last Thursday, reference Tropicana Swimming Pool. I was surprised at the low turnout of general public. Few councillors spoke at the meeting, those that did, had already made up their minds regarding the outcome, all be it parking for hotel guests, transport to town after visiting the Tropicana, and some roadway alterations, and some concessions. People of Weston want and need a swimming pool, but what is planned is a business complex which could be put almost anywhere in Weston. The pool is just an excuse for the developers to get a prime site, at no cost to themselves. A councillor said he had visited Romsey Pool last week and Gunwharf Quay at Portsmouth. He said the rapids at Romsey was a similar pool. Can I inform everyone that Romsey in Hampshire is considered a small market town and that the pool is not much use to swimmers and far too small for visiting holiday makers. The flume and rapids do not allow for easy swimming. Despite Romsey being about the size of Worle, during the summer months queuing extends for long periods just for one hour swim.Regarding Gunwharf Quay, yes it's a super shopping complex, but what helps make it a good experience is that the sea is always present and yachts and boats are passing next to the quay. Parking, though very good, is difficult at weekends, and almost impossible on bank holidays.M E R ALLWOOD - Address Supplied
