I REFER to the deplorable proposed changes in the district nursing service. Over the last six or seven years I have suffered badly with varicose ulcers and associated attacks of cellulites requiring three stays in hospital, totalling nine weeks, to receive expensive treatment by intravenous antibiotics. When not in hospital I required daily dressing changes done by the district nurses and the practice nurses. This went on for at least three years.Luckily for me one of the district nurses is a specialist in my problem and after a course on the latest techniques, tried some new treatments on me with my doctor's approval. I have now had more than a year with no ulcers and no pain. None of this would have happened without continuous care by the same people.
