I REFER to the deplorable proposed changes in the district nursing service. Over the last six or seven years I have suffered badly with varicose ulcers and associated attacks of cellulites requiring three stays in hospital, totalling nine weeks, to receive expensive treatment by intravenous antibiotics. When not in hospital I required daily dressing changes done by the district nurses and the practice nurses. This went on for at least three years.Luckily for me one of the district nurses is a specialist in my problem and after a course on the latest techniques, tried some new treatments on me with my doctor's approval. I have now had more than a year with no ulcers and no pain. None of this would have happened without continuous care by the same people. Have the powers that be never heard of the wise maxim 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it'?BERYL ROPERSomerville Road, Sandford
