Whilst it may be true North Somerset Council approved the Cabstand plans, it should not mean that if we believe we have been badly served by the "experts", the "experts" should not be brought to account. Is it not normal practice where a service or product fails 'to do what it says on the package' that the consumer is entitled to expect either further works to make good or a refund? Are consultants immune from regulations that the rest of us have to adhere to? It is precisely Cllr J S Clark's attitude that has North Somerset Council rolling over and giving up without much of a fight over contentious issues in Portishead, such as the library and further remedial work to Cabstand. What lessons can we learn from this for Junction 19? If it all goes horribly wrong and if past performance is anything to go by it will, do we the council tax paying public again have to foot the bill? It simply is not good enough to be bullied in to submission for fear of developers or consultants who wield their big well-funded sticks at cash-strapped councils knowing that they will not or cannot afford to fight back. They don't live in Portishead, they don't have to deal with the fallout of their profit-driven logic which means not enough parking for residents or visitors. They now develop homes, filling every inch of space routinely, even the roof-space on yet smaller and smaller plots, with tinier gardens, no amenities and few open spaces, all in return for building our library and a promise of a health centre - providing them with yet more housing opportunities. The reality is more profit for them. They don't care about what sort of environment they leave behind. They surely knew the retirement flats near Waitrose wouldn't have sold if purchasers had known what was going to overshadow them. How naive we are all now shown to be. We trusted them and they let us down and now we won't play ball they are getting nasty. Come on councillors let's all agree on this. Listen to local voices about their needs, their fears and put the residents and our environment first.Cllr David Pasley - Portishead
