I HOPE you will allow me to clarify points made in your article 'Row over election leaflet blurb' in the Somerset Mercury of May 26. I realise the by-election will have happened by the time this is published but, whatever the result, I do feel it is important to clarify this issue for Yatton residents who, as Richard Birch feared, may be confused by Cllr Cummings' misleading remarks.Cllr Isabel Cummings says that 'the (Liberal Democrat) party has sought to work with the parish council'. This is incorrect and is the point Richard Birch was trying to make clear in the parish council annual report. Yatton Parish Council is independent of party politics. The parish council does not work with political parties, including the Liberal Democrats. The parish council does, naturally, work with democratically elected councillors on North Somerset Council whatever their political persuasion.Yatton Parish Council is proud of its achievements and proud of its non-party make-up. In the past three years I can categorically state that we have never worked alongside the Liberal Democrat party. Its by-election candidate had never approached the council to work with us on road issues or any other and had never attended our meetings.CLLR FAITH MOULIN - Yatton Parish Council
