I am against the proposed change to North Somerset Council's constitution which would require that transcripts of speeches by members of the public being seen in advance by the chairman and the committee clerk. Clearly, the intention is to censor - this would definitely be an erosion of free speech.Members and officers of the council enjoy the same rights as others regarding libel and slander and they should implement these existing ones if they feel the need. Since when do they have a greater need than anyone else to be protected from rudeness? I really am amazed that someone should propose such a change - may we know who it was? Don Ritchie - via email
