ATTEMPTS by Cllr Crockford-Hawley last week to take the credit for thinking of extending the platform at Worle Parkway are sadly nothing but spin.In fact efforts to persuade the rail companies and Government to fund this work go back several years and before Crockford-Hawley was elected. At the present rate of progress they will also go on until after the next election unless John Penrose can bang some Ministerial heads together. So far the likelihood of the platform being extended is post 2011, but there is an intermediate plan to have selective unlocking of doors on intercity trains so that they can stop but avoid passengers opening doors and falling out on the track! However this idea has only come about because the local commuter trains and carriages are being cut. The idea is that the intercity trains will make up some of the lost capacity. So all that Cllr Crockford-Hawley has really achieved is less trains and seats available on the busy commuter route to Bristol. Nice one!CLIVE WEBBSt Pauls Road, Weston
