I'M SURE all our canine friends will welcome the lifting of the winter dog ban on Weston beach. Am I alone in being a little worried about the language used by the councillor from Clevedon who is now apparently in charge of Weston beach? The appropriately named Mr Pester patronisingly says he is giving dog owners 'a second chance' but rescinding the ban giving them 'permission to exercise their dogs on a portion of the beach'. However, in a chilling threat he warns that if fouling problems reoccur then the ban will be 'reinstated immediately with no opportunity for a reprieve'.Good grief! I know Big Brother is back on our TV screens, but isn't this all a bit Orwellian? Has all that power to ban dogs gone to his head? Where on earth will it all lead?S SMITH - Lonsdale Avenue, Weston
