I READ in the Mercury North Somerset Council's review of a number of key leisure services is now complete.I dare to think how much it has cost us as it has taken over a year. The Playhouse appears to be safe. I thought that if only it could attract more big names and shows it would get more bottoms on seats and therefore not face closure.Apparently all it needs for the time being is an online booking system. Weston's lovely museum's future doesn't look good. The review board thinks it is poorly situated and lacks visitors.I don't think anyone would expect a museum in a seaside town to make a profit, but we need to have local history available.A proposed solution is to close it and replace it with a touring exhibition, 'a museum in a lorry' visiting local schools and community centres.Believe it or not someone in the council actually thinks this is a good idea.A small shop would be opened "preferably on or near the seafront" to provide greater visibility. The next time you are on the seafront have a look at the Tourist Information Centre. Last week one main window was devoted to Wookey Hole and one other to national theatre tickets! If push comes to shove the council could relocate the museum to a central location ...
