DO we really need another platform at Weston railway station as Councillor John Crockford-Hawley suggests? (Mercury January 19, p19). It would cost a fortune and cause utter havoc with rail services during construction. Public money would be better spent ending the awful overcrowding problems on peak-time trains, highlighted by the recent 'fare strike' on First Great Western. With recent rail cutbacks the current two platforms at Weston station are quite sufficient.ANDY PATTEN - Jubilee Road, Weston
