SIXTEEN thousand people have signed a petition objecting to the redevelopment of the Tropicana? For goodness sake people of Weston, move on and join the 21st Century. This is a fantastic opportunity to create much needed employment and boost a flagging tourism industry. A letter of objection submitted to the planning panel states that no more restaurants are needed because the current ones in Weston struggle to make ends meet - why do they struggle? Because very few people actually want to come to Weston. It is a run down town with very little going for it. From the public consultation, 64 per cent of the respondents were retired. How many of the 16,000 on the petition are also retired? The majority of young families that I know in Weston are in full support of a leisure complex with modern facilities. Yes, when the weather is gorgeous all you need is the beautiful beach. But on days or weekends when the weather is appalling what is there to do in Weston?
