I WOULD be grateful for the opportunity to correct your report in last week's Mercury titled 'Holiday homework from the Mayor'.I am well aware most Westonians want a pool of some kind on the site of the now derelict Tropicana. The 'homework' I have set is not with a view of putting any new ideas on the Tropicana site. What I am asking people to do is to keep their eyes and ears open when they visit other towns and resorts both in this country and abroad, and to bring back ideas for additional attractions we can try to introduce to Weston generally to improve facilities for locals and visitors alike on the seafront and elsewhere in the town. We should be ready to copy other towns' successes or modify and adapt where necessary, to that end, I am pleased to accept an invitation from the Mayor of Teignmouth to visit his resort in the next few days to see for myself the children's facilities they have introduced to much acclaim.I have also arranged the first meeting of a think tank of local business leaders and entrepreneurs to discuss ways of giving Weston the shot in the arm it so badly needs and, hopefully, good ideas will come out of that meeting. We can then move on to exploring ways of putting those ideas into practice. After all, if Westonians don't act in the town's interest, who will?JOHN LEY-MORGAN - Town mayor
