LAST week two individuals decided to burgle my mother aged 84, gaining access using the waterboard excuse.

My reason for writing this letter is not really the burglary, but the way the police handled the whole affair.

After realising my mother had been burgled, she contacted the police, and they were at her flat within five minutes.

The two officers were kind and considerate, and drove her around the immediate area to see if she could recognise the burglers.

They then brought her to my house to tell me what had happened, took her home to take a statement, and even made her a cup of tea. A couple of hours later another officer came to the flat to look for fingerprints.

The next day, the officers telephoned her to check that she was OK and to ask if there was anything she needed. Finally, at least for the moment, an officer came to discuss security with her.

In this day and age we hear complaint after complaint about the police, but I'm glad to say that as I don't have much to do with them, all I can say is, you've got my vote, many thanks!
