THE unanimous decision by the West Area Committee of North Somerset Council to agree to the Henry Boot proposals for the Tropicana did not surprise me, but I am left wondering about one point mentioned in the planning committee's report. The developer claimed the overall mass and form was led by the building's function and was needed to accommodate sufficient development to ensure the building was financially viable. In other words it was essential to have a hotel, bowling alley and cinema along with 30-odd shops, restaurants, bars and cafes on site to pay for the pool. The report stated though that insufficient financial evidence had been submitted to prove this. Lucky Boot. Personally, I'd like to think my council was more thorough and didn't just believe what they were told. PETER WHITMARSH - Pendlesham Gardens, Weston
