I'M CONVINCED Councillor John Crockford-Hawley has finally lost the plot!On BBC 'Points West' on Monday he floated the idea of turning all the street lights off across North Somerset from 12-5am to save on the council's £500k yearly electricity bill. Can I suggest he should have considered this when £288k was allocated to build the 'Carrot' on Big Lamp Corner; a project that is already over budget and build time which probably means more expense for the long-suffering council tax payer. Then we had the donation of £577,200 to First, the bloated private bus company which seems to base its profits on how much it can get from the tax payer. It will be protested that these payments were made using Government grants - which incidentally also come from taxes - to try to fob off the taxpayers of North Somerset. But it just won't wash!Has it not been considered what a field day the lawyers will have as they sue North Somerset Council on behalf of those who are the victims of mugging, injuries caused by bumping into unseen objects, falls over unseen cracks in the pavements and a multitude of other big earners for the 'No win - no fee' merchants who will be chasing every ambulance throughout the region during the hours of not 'darkness' but 'pitch blackness.'TONY PROBERT South Lawn, Locking
