I SPENT a fantastic time last weekend with my grand-daughter going around Bleadon Village looking at all the scarecrows.

Considering it was their first year at this event it was brilliant, lots of scarecrows to see and afterwards tea and homemade cakes to refresh you.

If you didn't manage to get there you have the opportunity to go to other villages in the area and see their scarecrow festivals.

Kewstoke Village is the next one on September 12 and 13, the theme is 'People I want to be'.

After that comes St Georges on September 19 with the theme 'Cartoon Characters', Uphill September 19 and 20 and the theme 'Historical characters' and to complete the September scarecrow viewing we have Hutton also September 19 and 20 the theme 'Holiday'.

Then the piece de resistance, so to speak, is Locking village on October 3 and 4 with their theme 'Myths and Legends'.

To all the people who say there isn't much going on in our area go to these scarecrow festivals, you will not be disappointed and will have a really good time.
