IN JANUARY this year I reported two large potholes in the highway at the entrance to the car park at the rear of the Woodborough Inn, Winscombe. I have checked this with the clerk to Winscombe Parish Council who has confirmed that an e-mail was sent in January 2006 to North Somerset Council with details of the potholes.I noted that in July this year nothing appeared to have been done to repair the potholes so I contacted North Somerset Highways maintenance department and was told that there had been a change of staff and when the new incumbent was into the job he would attend to my complaint. One month later nothing had happened so again I spoke with North Somerset Council on August 5 and within days yellow marks were painted around the holes in the highway. On August 21, apart from the yellow markings, nothing had happened so again I spoke with North Somerset who told me they would reissue the paperwork so the offending potholes could be repaired.I find it very difficult to understand how so many millions of pounds of council taxpayers' money can be found to deal with overspends on various projects which are supposed to be managed by our extremely expensive team of chief officers yet two dangerous potholes in the highway cannot be repaired in a seven month period.Could it be that the lunatics have finally taken over the asylum?GARETH JONES - Woodborough Drive, Winscombe
