I READ letters regarding Poles working here and going to college for English lessons. We have many different nationalities here, besides Poles. They work hard, speak English, can spell and do maths and staff cafes, hotels, the pier shops, drive buses, to name but a few jobs British people don't want to do.I was recently asked by my Australian pharmacist why British people don't want to work or study to improve their employment chances. He is here for 12 months, and intends to return to Australia, but informed me that in Australia most people regard British people as lazy when it comes to improving their life situations. Obviously there are many hard-working students and workers, but many who are happy to pick up benefits rather than having a pride in their own achievements. Foreign workers here do a good job and are trustworthy and willing to work.No one leaves their home country without sorrow. All Governments should encourage people to work and take pride in being employable. If we did not have foreign workers many jobs would remain unfilled. We have to blame our Governments for sending work to foreign countries because it's cheaper, and for allowing people to remain on benefits rather than being responsible for their own living standards. Don't use Poles as a scapegoat for apathy and laziness.LINDA HEANEYBeach Road, Sand Bay
