FOLLOWING your visit to talk to our pupils on the subject of cookery lessons, I should like to add some of my own opinions as their head of food technology. I have taught at Worle Community School for nearly 20 years and have experienced many new Government initiatives including the demise of Food and Nutrition. The school boasts two state of the art kitchens built at a time when some schools were being encouraged to replace cookers for computers. I have a team of highly-qualified specialist food teachers who have maintained the necessity to demonstrate traditional practical skills for pupils to learn in school and practise at home. We value parents reinforcing these skills and ensuring that young people are given other opportunities to cook healthy foods. I would also appreciate parents recommending recipes which could be used in school, as suggested by the Government but please be aware that lessons are only an hour long!CAROLYN SHEEHAN - Head of Food Technology, Worle Community School
