I ATTENDED the West Area Committee meeting last Thursday to address councillors on my fears that a hotel on the Tropicana site was a massive gamble. If it eventually proves to be unsuccessful, a future district council will have no alternative but to consent to its conversion to flats - even though an application to build flats on this prime site now would be unthinkable and would be thrown out with minimum discussion. Those councillors who spoke made many valid points in support of the Boot application and the plans were passed unanimously. I have a lifelong love of Weston and wish the project well. I have had the opportunity to express my fears and now hope that they will be groundless. This development has the potential to bring great benefit to local people and visitors alike and I wish it every success.JOHN LEY-MORGAN - Elmsleigh Road, Weston
