MAY I please ask your older readers to rummage around in their memories? I was born in Weston on March 13, 1938, at the Valletta Nursing Home, which was in Landemann Circus. What sort of a place was it? When did it close? My parents' address was 72a Bristol Road. 72 Lower Bristol Road is certainly still there but there is no 'a'. I guess it was probably a basement flat. It was just around the corner from the Valletta Nursing Home. My father, Ossie Whitaker, was manager (or, more likely, an assistant manager) at the Odeon cinema. He wasn't there for long. He left for Weymouth and, as the war intervened, I was despatched to the security of my grandmother's home in Cornwall and all memory of Weston was lost.Living now in Bridgwater, I am just outside the Mercury's circulation area so can I ask anyone who has any memory, however slight, to get in touch by post, phone (01278) 663492 or e-mail mjo.whitaker@tiscali.co.uk MIKE WHITAKER - Greenbanks, Cliff Road, North Petherton, Bridgwater TA6 6NY
