Surely skateboarding is carried out by a very small minority of youths? Should it be decided that we do need another one locally? Surely the Lake Grounds is not the place. It was only last week the provision of a bandstand was being discussed - in much the same place, incidentally in the grounds - how stupid to have them near to each other.I would like its advocates to do some research - like seeing how often the skateboard areas in Merlin Park and Clevedon are used, and by how many, before they seriously propose another one. Is it for visitors or local youths? If the former can it be justified on cost or environmental grounds, and if the latter - it would be better sited near to a housing area, such as the Ashlands estates where there might be some open space available.A preferable location would be well away from areas where families are trying to spend a relaxing time out (or listening to band music!) and not subjected to rather intrusive noise. And would it be closed off after dark? I suggest that needs to be considered. So let's think carefully and logically about this matter. The Lake Grounds is a far too valuable place to cheapen with a skateboard area.Brian Elliot - Via e-mail
